A new destination of Surin launched in 2021, is a large sweet water lake with good atmosphere suitable for relaxing similar to a beach. On the banks are restaurants serving visitors on rafts and after ordering food guests are able to trail their feet in the water or swim in the lake. There are also other interesting activities i.e. water cycles, jet-skis and banana boats.
Huay Rasai was a pond before but in 1967 Luang Por Thongsuk Silawanno, former Abbot of Wat Naraiburin Temple led villagers to dam the pond and later in 1985 the water source survey project further dammed the pond for irrigation purposes. The budget allocated enable the project which was completed in 1987 with the Rural Development Acceleration Office in charge for the construction. Then in 2014 the Department of Water Resources carried out another survey and another budget was allocated in 2014 to facilitate the project until it was completed.
The project was carried out in 4 phases with a budget of over 100 million Baht with MP Pakorn Mungcharoenporn coordinating the project until completion in 2019. On the 9th of May 2020 Village Chief Chaiyakorn Thidnam and villagers held a meeting with the Sub-district Administration Office to improve the landscape and to brainstorm on increasing the income for the villagers of village no.4. The resolution was to make the lake into a tourist destination and hence the raft restaurants resulting in a destination.
