An agency under the Zoological Organization of Thailand under Royal Patronage of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with the objectives to help vagabond elephants which are a problem in big cities. The Mahouts are driving the elephants to beg for food and the elephants are often injured and even dies from accidents and the stress causes them to become violent and causes casualties. Therefore, when the Zoological Organization reported to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother on the breeding of endangered and rare species, Her Majesty made a request that these elephants should receive care and conservation as well as elephants are the Kingdom’s symbol and must be conserved and protected to have a better livelihood. The Zoological Organization then initiated Her Majesty’s wishes which became the Elephant Repatriation Project of the Zoological Organization of Thailand under Royal Patronage or the Elephant Empire of Surin Province.
The construction commenced on 29 September 2009 with the development to become a natural conservation and local culture destination with emphasis on a sufficient economy elephant village as per Royal Initiatives for new theory agricultural practice by making the area more fertile and abundance of elephant feed to be fully self-sustainable by utilizing 4.8 million sq.m. of the Dong Phu Din National Forest Reservation, Tha Toom District, Surin to complete the mission.
