Wat Burapharam is an ancient temple estimated to have been built in the Thonburi era or early Rattanakosin era and around 200 years old which is as old as Surin City. It was built by Phraya Surin Pakdee Srinarong Jangwang (Pum), the first Lord Governor, around 1757-1787. Within is a Buddha statue named Luang Por Phra Chee (Luang Por Bra Jee) in the Marawichai (Overcoming Temptations) pose, lap width of 2 meters. It is assumed that it was built at the same time as the temple and is considered to be the Province’s main Buddha. Also, visitors may also pay homage to the statue of Luang Pu Dul Attulo (The Province Lord Abbot, Senior member of the Dhammayuth Order), a revered monk.

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great bestowed the title Royal Monastery upon the temple on 1 February 1977.
