Situated at Prai Khla Sub-district it is formerly part of the Thung Gula Rong Hai (Field where the Gula tribe cried; the Gula from Martaban, Myanmar are normally a hardy folk) arid plains but at present it has been transformed into a very fertile area being a main rice paddy and lake land. It is the top exporter of Thai Jasmin Rice of Thailand and it is now referred to “Thung Gula (mai rong hai; doesn’t cry) anymore Lake”. This is due to in 2007 this area was dug and dredged to become a monkey cheek for storing water to fight the drought in the dry season. Later the Irrigation Department dug another 1.2 million sq.m. to become a huge reservoir and renamed it to “Thung Gula Lake”.
The area around the lake has bicycle lanes, scenic pavilions and other amenities with clear blue/green waters. There are also water activities i.e. banana boats, rafts, rubber rings and delicious food on the offer i.e. grilled fish, papaya salad, grilled chicken, etc.
